2008-2009 Residency: Indiana University- Centro de Rehabilitacion Visual, Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico extension clinic

Primary care- supervising 4-6 interns (Fourth year optometry students from Indiana, Puerto Rico, and Australia) on approximately 20-25 patients per day.

Rigid contact lens fitting including 104 keratoconus patients

Surgical observation and assisting with cataract, strabismus, and evisceration.

Preparation of continuing education lectures in Spanish in collaboration with interns

Direct care for high-volume cataract campaigns (post-op) and VOSH campaigns- pediatric section and ocular disease section

2007-2008 Residency: Jonathan M. Wainwright VAMC and Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute (PCLI)- Primary Care and Surgical Co-Managment

  • Geriatric patient base with multiple co-morbidities and extensive polypharmacy

  • Full-scope care including low vision rehabilitation, lid lesion removal, punctal plugs, punctal dilation and irrigation, management of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, foreign body removal, and ocular surface disease

  • Observation of over 100 cataract surgeries, LASIK procedures, fluorescein angiography, YAG capsulotomy, corneal transplantation, DSAEK, trabeculectomy, and tube shunts

  • Led interactive continuing education lectures for technicians

  • Case report paper and presentation for continuing education at Pacific University College of Optometry
